Safety will be improved for road users and families of Hadspen with a commitment of $3.8 million to upgrade the intersection of Bartley Street and Meander Valley Road from an elected Dutton Littleproud Coalition Government.
Liberal candidate for Lyons Susie Bower said she had fought for the project funding to be considered after listening to many families voice their concerns, especially parents of school-aged children who are forced to
get on and off the school bus on the side of this road in busy traffic conditions.
“This investment will deliver a safe pick-up and drop-off zone for school children and make this intersection safer for all road users,” Ms Bower said.
“Hadspen is a fast-growing area with 300 new homes approved for development. There are a lot of families with children now residing in the community, so it’s even more important these roads are fit-for-purpose and
able cater for a growing population.”
Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Senator Bridget McKenzie said the Coalition was serious about improving road safety and supported sensible upgrades that made communities
safer.
“The Albanese Labor Government has cancelled, cut and delayed more than $30 billion worth of infrastructure projects over the past three years, and I know Tasmanians, like all Australians, want to see improvements to
problem roads like this,” Senator McKenzie said.
“Liberal candidate for Lyons, Susie Bower hosted me here back in September and it was immediately clear that a serious accident was just waiting to happen. The Coalition doesn’t want to wait for tragedy to strike before
acting. We are here today to demonstrate our commitment to the important regional roads across the country like this.”
“The Coalition – in stark contrast to the Albanese Government – is committed to invest in roads, rail and local infrastructure for communities, particularly those in regional and rural Australia.”
