Nationals Victorian Senator, Bridget McKenzie, is accusing the Federal Government of inconsistency on alpine cattle grazing.
Last year the Victorian Government reintroduced grazing in the Alpine National Park in a trial to see if it reduced fire fuel loads.
But earlier this year Federal Environment Minister, Tony Burke, stepped in and stopped the trial.
Senator McKenzie says the ACT Government has increased cattle grazing and the Federal Government should allow Victoria to do the same.
“Well if Mr Burke is so concerned about cattle grazing and it’s impact on ecological, environment and heritage values, then I struggle to see how he cannot apply the same test and measures that he’s applied to the Alpine National Park to the areas in the ACT that are being grazed by cattle.”
