The Wimmera’s standing as a grains research hub was highlighted today in a meeting between Horsham Rural City Council (RCC) and Senator for Victoria, Bridget McKenzie.
The Nationals Senator said she was impressed by the spectrum of education pathways available in Horsham to those wishing to pursue a career in agricultural business or research. Senator McKenzie is a member of a Senate Committee inquiring into higher education and skills training needs to support Australian agriculture.
Horsham RCC Mayor Mandi Stewart and CEO Peter Brown took Senator McKenzie on a guided tour of Horsham today as part of her fact finding mission around regional Victoria.
“Horsham RCC drew my attention to the variety of transport solutions required to meet growing business and community need, including the Horsham bypass and increased rail capacity,” Senator McKenzie said.
“My local government tour has reinforced my belief that responsible investment in infrastructure by all levels of government provides the platform for growth and prosperity in regional Australia.
“With Parliament resuming next week I look forward to continuing to advocate for the Wimmera as we battle a Labor Government out of touch with regional Victoria,” Senator McKenzie said.
