A Dutton-Littleproud Coalition Government will deliver an additional $20 million to match the LNP State Government’s $20 million commitment to improve the safety of the Brisbane Valley Highway, one of Queensland’s top 10 worst roads.
Liberal National Party candidate for Blair, Carl Mutzelburg said the community was concerned about the poor condition of the busy Brisbane Valley Highway and the lack of action by the Labor Party.
“This project has been languishing on the books for far too long and I will fight to see the roadworks commence and the highway upgraded under a Coalition Government,” Mr Mutzelburg said.
“In bringing Senator McKenzie to this road today to witness first-hand at the condition of the road, I am delighted the Coalition has committed to provide the funding needed to prioritise this project.”
Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Senator Bridget McKenzie said the Brisbane Valley Highway is an important arterial and freight corridor for the Somerset region which has been neglected by state and federal Labor governments.
“The former Coalition Government invested $20 million under the South East Queensland City Deal to upgrade this notorious highway but the Albanese Labor Government has sat on the money over the past three years and failed to act,” Senator McKenzie said.
“The Coalition will deliver these vital safety upgrades for the communities of Blair in partnership with the Crisafulli Queensland LNP Government,” Senator McKenzie said.
Queensland Senator Paul Scarr said the State LNP Government promised an additional $20 million to fix the Brisbane Valley Highway and he had been campaigning for the Albanese Government to match that commitment.
“I have stood up for this highway because the sitting Labor member has failed to act for the past 18 years, just as he has failed to fix the Amberley interchange,” Senator Scarr said.
“When challenged to support extra funding for the Brisbane Valley Highway the Labor MP, Mr Neumann attempted to ridicule the issue, demonstrating just how out of touch he has become after 18 years in Canberra,” Senator Scarr said.
Mr Mutzelburg said Labor has failed our local community for two decades and it’s only the LNP that has a positive plan to get projects like this across Australia back on track.
