Minister for Rural Health, Bridget McKenzie has congratulated the Australian Federal Police, for their role in a major methamphetamine bust in Adelaide.
Law enforcement authorities, led by the AFP, have prevented more than 300 kilograms of ice from hitting the streets in South Australia, which had the potential to impact regional communities.
Minister McKenzie said the Coalition Government is taking action to stop the scourge of ice in regional Australia.
“Regional communities are often the hardest hit when it comes to ice abuse and addiction,” Minister McKenzie said.
“That’s why we are tackling the supply of methamphetamine through increased international cooperation, better intelligence sharing and stronger controls over precursor chemicals to prevent ice from reaching our shores.”
“This latest seizure clearly demonstrates that the Coalition’s targeted investments are putting a major dent into the ice epidemic in regional communities.”
“The Coalition Government is investing almost $300 million dollars as part of the National Ice Action Strategy to combat illicit drug use, through better treatment, after care and education.”
“And earlier this year, the Federal Government announced the rollout of more Local Drug Action Teams, to develop local strategies to prevent substance abuse in our local communities.”
