The Alpine Shire has been successful in winning funding for a multi-million dollar
redevelopment of key public spaces within the townships of Poepunkah and
Myrtleford.
The National’s Senator for Victoria, Bridget McKenzie announced the grants today
under Round 3 of the Federal Coalition Government’s National Stronger Regions
Fund.
Senator McKenzie said the grant of $990,000 will create spaces that celebrate the
natural environment, embrace cultural heritage and preserve the rural town
feel.
“I am really excited about what this grant will provide including increased
opportunity for walking, cycling and social interaction through greater
connectivity between recreation and commercial spaces.
“This will allow the Alpine Shire Council to market and promote regional business
opportunities through an increased business investment profile, ultimately
improving the vitality of the townships making them more attractive places to
visit, socialise and conduct business.
“There is a great opportunity to increase tourism to this area for more people to not
only experience the town’s high quality food and wine but also promote the
growing potential for cycle tourism, led bushwalks, road trail and mountain
bike tours, cooking schools and farm visits,” Senator McKenzie said.
Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the local projects funded under NSRF
Round 3 made a huge difference in their communities. Some 479 applications were
lodged under Round 3 and only the very best were successful.
