An elected Dutton Coalition Government will invest $40 million toward fixing the notorious Marion Road-Sturt Road intersection.
The announcement was made today by Shadow Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Tony Pasin MP and Liberal Candidate for Boothby, Nicolle Flint.
The Marion Road-Sturt Road intersection has been ranked by the RAA as Adelaide’s most dangerous, with 36 casualty crashes between 2019 and 2023. It is also one of the busiest intersections with 80,900 cars passing through each day.
“A Dutton Coalition Government will invest $40 million in improving safety and traffic flow at the Marion Road-Sturt Road intersection – something that is long overdue,” said Mr Pasin.
“It’s all part of our plan to make Australians safer on our roads.
“In contrast, Labor has no plan to improve road safety. In fact, in the three years of Labor Government, Albanese has cut, cancelled and delayed more than $30 billion of infrastructure funding and the road toll now stands at levels not seen since 2012.”
Liberal Candidate for Boothby, Nicolle Flint has been running a petition and lobbying State and Federal Labor governments to fix the intersection.
“This funding is possible because of the support of our community and everyone who signed my petition, so thank you for working alongside me to fight for a fix,” said Ms Flint.
“Labor’s lack of action at this intersection is completely consistent with its lack of action elsewhere in our local area.
“In fact, the State and Federal Labor governments have barely managed to start – let alone finish – a single major traffic upgrade in Boothby, despite being in government at a state and federal level since 2022.
“Our local community deserves better and safer roads and, with your support that’s exactly what a Dutton Liberal Government will deliver.”
Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Senator McKenzie said Adelaide has endured three wasted years of infrastructure failure under the Albanese Government.
“More than $1.7 billion has been ripped out of South Australian infrastructure projects while delays have seen the construction costs blow out, meaning local families have paid more tax for less delivery in the middle of Labor’s cost of living crisis,” Senator McKenzie said.
“Only a Coalition Government will get the delivery of critical life saving infrastructure back on track.”
