Dear Editor,
Your readers would be interested to know they can apply for funding under the Volunteer Grants 2015 program.
The Australian Government has invested $20 million in Volunteer Grants 2015 in recognition of the valuable role of volunteers and encourage volunteering in the local community.
As we know, volunteers participate in a diverse range of activities including helping at local sporting events, fundraising, meals on wheels, or assisting after an emergency or natural disaster.
Grants between $1,000 and $5,000 are available to help not for profit community organisations support their volunteers through practical measures such as purchasing small equipment items, reimbursement for fuel and transport costs, and helping with the cost of training and background screening checks.
This is a great opportunity for local community groups in your area to get some extra support to continue the great work they do. But they need to act now before applications close at 2pm on the 9th of December.
The Volunteer Grants 2015 Application Pack is available from the Department of Social Services’ website at www.dss.gov.au/grants, or by calling the free hotline on 1800 183 374 or emailing vg2015@dss.gov.au.
Yours sincerely,
Senator Bridget McKenzie
