Nationals Senate Leader Bridget McKenzie said Labor and The Greens today again turned their back on hard working regional Victorian families in a pathetic attempt to shut down Victoria’s sustainable timber industry.
The Greens unsuccessfully called on the federal Government to abandon the Victorian Regional Forest Agreement which provides for sustainable management and use of Victoria’s forests.
“I grew up in a logging town. Timber is a clean, green, sustainable, well-managed resource. The lack of support and commitment to this sustainable industry is strongly condemned,” Senator McKenzie said.
“Every single tree that is harvested in Victoria is regrown. The industry supports thousands of rural and regional jobs, where do these inner-city environmental crusaders think their sustainably-harvested timber furniture and timber decking for their sustainable living comes from?”
The Nationals will fight to keep rural and regional jobs, we back renewable and sustainable industries like forestry and the families and regional communities it supports.
