Great improvements on North East Rail Line for Wodonga

 National’s Senator for Victoria, Bridget McKenzie said today a $140 million joint investment in the North east Rail Line will deliver more reliable services for people living in the Wodonga area.
The boost to local rail services is part of a Federal Government $1.52 billion investment in infrastructure in Victoria to ease congestion and provide better rail services across the state.
“This is great news for people throughout the Indi electorate and a great boost to Wodonga residents who have suffered with an inadequate rail service for years.
“The North East line is leased by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC), which is responsible for safe lines and maintenance on the standard gauge line to Albury/Wodonga.
“Poor track condition and the Victorian Government’s ageing V/Line rolling stock contribute to poor ride quality,” Senator Mckenzie said.
“I was delighted that Infrastructure Minister Darren Chester was able to join me and my state colleagues, the Member for Euroa, Steph Ryan and the Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy in riding the train last April and seeing the significant problems at first hand.
“Now, our upgrades, in addition to the State Government’s proposed new Next Generation Long Distance regional trains, will fix the problem.
“This is great news for the Wodonga area, the National’s on a federal and state level have worked hard to get this resolution which is what local residents deserve,” Senator McKenzie said.
As part of the agreement, the Commonwealth has sought a commitment from Victoria to support delivery of Inland Rail by signing a National Partnership Agreement and agree to settle any arrangements regarding maintenance for the upgrades of the North East Rail Line.
