FEDERAL Nationals leader Warren Truss will take the Nationals parliamentary team on a two-day blitz of the Richmond and Page electorates, starting on Monday.
“It will start with a party room meeting in Tweed Heads then take to the road through both electorates,” said spokesman for the Nationals Brett Heffernan.
“Available MPs and Senators will divide into two groups (Team A and Team B) to cover as much territory as possible.”
Participating MPs and Senators include Team A with Warren Truss MP, Senator Bridget McKenzie, Mark Coulton, John Forrest and Ken O’Dowd.
Team B will include Senator Fiona Nash, Senator John Williams, Paul Neville, George Christensen and Senator Barnaby Joyce.
Mr Heffernen said the blitz was a regular strategy of the nationals.
“From time to time we get out and talk to the people about issues that matter to them,” he said.
The emphasis of the Tweed Heads visit will be the carbon tax and its impact on local tourism.
“We are very much on the ground on this issue,” Mr Heffernan said.
“With higher cost involved in travel, such as regional aviation costs, small operators will be hit hard.
“Local stores, restaurants and hotels will bear the brunt.
“There are other ways of dealing with carbon emission without imposing huge taxes that affect small operators.”
