This Friday the Daniel Andrew’s Labor Government will have the opportunity to put the national interest first and secure Australia’s energy future by agreeing to the National Energy Guarantee.
Developed by the experts, backed by business and supported by modelling from the independent Energy Security Board, the National Energy Guarantee will lower household bills by $550 a year and strengthen the reliability of the system.
Deputy Leader of The Nationals and Senator for Victoria, Bridget McKenzie said “Australian’s are sick of the partisan debate that has overshadowed the progress and development of our energy sector for decades.”
Regional Victorian businesses are often high energy users and they have seen their electricity bills triple in recent years which has crippled the growth of local businesses.
Since the closure of Hazelwood power station in 2017, Victoria now has the second highest energy prices in the country.
“We have experienced first- hand in Victoria what inaction can do to the affordability, security and reliability of energy. Minister McKenzie said.
“Energy prices have risen by up to 300% in the State of Victoria, families and businesses simply cannot afford for them to go up any higher.
“The Andrew’s Government is putting politics, not people first. Daniel Andrews needs to stop turning his back on the hard working people of Victoria and put politics aside for the future prosperity of our great State.”
Lower power prices, more reliability, encouraging investment and creating jobs – these are the priority of the Coalition Government.
The Victorian Labor Governments has so far refused to agree to the National Energy Guarantee they have 5 days to come to their senses.
