Today the Albanese Labor Government and the Greens voted against an inquiry into the accountability and management of AirServices Australia and ensuring a safer, affordable and reliable air transport system across Australia.
By voting with the Greens, Labor are refusing to gain a deeper understanding of the impacts of the ongoing dysfunction in air space management and help in shaping policy to drive positive change within the aviation industry.
The Coalition has expressed concerns regarding the safety and operational effectiveness of Australia’s air space management for some time.
It is clear significant challenges within Airservices Australia are a prominent factor in flight cancellations and delays and poor communication with local communities affected by aircraft noise.
The Albanese Labor Government is failing to adequately address our struggling Aviation industry and the responsible Minister, Catherine King, has ignored calls from industry, passengers and stakeholders to overhaul the regulators.
A much more limited inquiry which will limit accountability by Airservices Australia was put up by the Greens and supported by Labor.
The Liberals and Nationals will continue to hold the Albanese Labor Government to account and advocate for better airspace management to ensure an affordable, safer and more reliable air transport system and to address the concerns of stakeholders across Australia.
