Nationals Senator for Victoria Bridget McKenzie is encouraging young regional Victorians undertaking tertiary studies to apply for The Nationals Young Leaders scholarship.
Senator McKenzie said the Nationals were proud to support regional students to pursue tertiary study and develop leadership qualities, especially those committed to the development of regional Victoria.
“I would encourage all school-leavers and young people progressing with tertiary studies in 2013 to consider applying for the Young Leaders Scholarship,” Senator McKenzie said.
The Nationals state director Jenny Hammett said The Nationals had great faith in the potential of young regional Victorians.
“The scholarship winners will be chosen based on their academic endeavours, local leadership qualities, community involvement and their commitment to rural life.
“The total value of the scholarship is $5,000, which may be allocated as a single scholarship or shared amongst one or more successful applicants,’’ Ms Hammett said.
“There are many challenges for regional students, particularly those in the more remote and rural regions, and we admire the strength and resilience it takes for students and their families to overcome those challenges.
‘‘The scholarship is one way of encouraging country students to take the path of continuing education,” Ms Hammett commented.
The selection criteria for the scholarship include the applicant’s academic record, leadership qualities and community involvement.
The Young Leaders Scholarship is awarded to students who are intending to return to or remain in the country after their course and demonstrate a career commitment that will ultimately benefit regional Victoria.
Special consideration may also be given to students in hardship situations.
The application process will be open until 28 February, 2014.
