The Nationals Senator for Victoria Bridget McKenzie congratulates Gippland’s Alex Arbuthnot AM on being awarded the National Farmers’ Federation Award of Honour for his contribution to the agricultural sector.
Senator McKenzie, who attended the presentation at the NFF Art of Farming Congress dinner last night, said the award was fitting for a local champion of agriculture and agribusiness over many years.
“Alex Arbuthnot is highly respected and well-regarded across the agricultural sector, for his commitment to innovation and technology.
“He has never forgotten those who are most important – the people on the ground – while engaging with all levels of bureaucracy to promote regional Victoria’s dairy industry and agribusiness opportunities.”
Mr Arbuthnot has been a great leader in agriculture, formerly a president of the Victorian Farmers’ Federation before becoming involved with the NFF’s Conservation Committee. Through this role, he was also involved in the establishment of Landcare Australia, of which he is now a Director.
Mr Arbuthnot is currently the Chair of Agribusiness Gippsland and has played a crucial role in the economic development of the agricultural sector.
Senator McKenzie said Mr Arbuthnot’s acceptance speech acknowledged the support of his family, especially his wife Isobel, who worked the family farm so he could pursue his work in agri-politics.
“Alex’s family can be extremely proud of his achievements and this great honour, a recognition of all their hard work.”
