Minister launches Charles Sturt University grants program

Thursday, 3 May 2018

Minister for Rural Health, Senator Bridget McKenzie with the Member for Calare, Mr Andrew Gee, have today launched Charles Sturt University’s 2018 Community-University Partnerships Grants program.

Through the Community-University Partnerships Grants program, Charles Sturt University provides grants of up to $20,000 to support local cultural, economic and sporting activities,” Mr Andrew Gee said.

CSU is a champion for regional Australia and this program demonstrates the university’s commitment to supporting its students and the communities in which it has a presence including Orange.”

Minister McKenzie said that as the Minister for Rural Health, she was delighted to see the university’s Orange campus delivering important medical training in areas such as dentistry and allied and community health.

“I am absolutely passionate about people in country communities being able to access health services comparable to those offered in our capital cities,” Minister McKenzie said.

“To do this, we need to grow the rural health sector — and to do that we need people pursuing health studies on campuses like the one here in Orange.

“It’s for this reason, the Australian Government is investing almost $8.7 million to 31 December 2018 in the Three Rivers University Department of Rural Health — a project led by Charles Sturt University.

“This project is supporting the delivery of rural clinical training for health students in regional campuses all over NSW — including here in Orange — and across a range of disciplines such as occupational therapy, nutrition, nursing, midwifery, dentistry, pharmacy, podiatry and social work.

“The Government’s support for the Three Rivers University Department of Rural Health project is part of our overall commitment to investing in initiatives that will further strengthen the health system in rural and regional Australia.”
